The Data Quality Act passed through Congress in Sec. 515 of the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554; H.R. 5658). The law directs the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to issue "policy and procedural guidance to Federal agencies" to ensure the "quality" of information disseminated by the federal government. The Data Quality Act is sometimes known as the Information Quality Act.
