An Information Collection Request (ICR) is a set of documents that describe the information a federal agency wishes to collect from a regulated sector. The collected information may include surveys, record keeping, reporting documents or other information collection requirements. For an agency to collect such information, it must first send an information collection request to the Office of Management and Budget. OMB must approve the request before the collection can begin. The ICR provides an overview of the collection and an estimate of the cost, both in terms of money and time, for the regulated body to respond.
